Update 1: Initial Playtesting Complete
It’s your favorite secretarybird, Holly Hutchinson! (I hope!) Today, I’ve got news from our playtesting group! The latest Gun-Witch campaign just wrapped up, and after a little fine-tuning, the mechanics are really coming together! It does a great job creating the feel we’re trying to channel - you’re powerful, yes, but things can go wrong fast. You need to use your tools to their utmost to survive - especially a Gun-Witch’s most sacred instrument, the miracle of shot and shell itself.
The system’s most important mechanic is Powder; Powder is your life-force, your identity, the campfires shared with old friends and loose ends. Powder is also your ammunition. Shooting most things - the barrel that son of a snake is drinking from, the lock on a door, or maybe a rickety bridge-arch - doesn’t cost Powder. But shooting people, real thinking people, does. We did things this way to keep the gun a vital and useful problem-solving tool, but to make sure shooting in some sense stays meaningful.
Given how we’ve got the systems in a place where we’d like for the moment, we’re going to spend some time working on the lore, along with pre-gen campaigns and enemies to show how the mechanics work. Hopefully we’ll be able to start telling you more about life (and death) on Elonanji, the land of a thousand dead gods where Gun-Witch takes place, very soon.
